One Day Workshop on 'Personality Development and Career Opportunities'

 

Adarsh College of Arts and Commerce,  Kulgaon, Badlapur, organised a one day workshop on 'Personality Development and Career Opportunities' on  23rd September, 2016 at 9.30 a.m. in the college auditorium.

The Inaugural function started with the lighting of the lamp at the hands of chief guest Dr. Ajit Patil, Sr.faculty, IBS School of Management, Powai, and resource persons Dr. R.J. Gujarati and Mr. Makarand Rege,  accompanied by the Principal Dr. Vaidehi Daptardar.

In his key note address Dr. Ajit Patil guided the young audience on various aspects of personality. Every individual has been bestowed upon with some distinct advantage and to identify that may help them to form a unique personality. He stressed that personality is not a test of IQ but of sensitivity, character and maturity. Students should never cheat their parents or teachers because “your sins will always visit you”, was Dr. Patils' golden advice. Finally, he gave tips on preparation for group discussion and interviews. Fluency in English language, reading newspaper,  good listening skill, a  thorough preparation on the bio-data were the key points to get success in Group Discussions and interviews.

The first and second technical session was conducted by DR. R. J. Gujarathi, the Workshop Director, on 'How to write one’s Bio-data and How to Enhance It' were his key areas. The sessions were very informative as a detailed discussion on writing resume was carried out. Dr. Gujarati tipped students on various details to be written in a bio-data like name, address, phone number, email-id, educational qualification, achievements, skills, strength, hobbies and references. Dr. Gujarati also stressed about mentioning various skills that the candidate possess like analytical skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills, leadership skills, customer driven skills, organizational skills etc. for the future employers’ better understanding. He advised the students to remember that, “you are sending yourself in the form of the resume”.

How to Enrich one’s Bio data was a part of second technical session. Constantly updating one’s resume is the key to enhancement of it. one should not ignore one’s achievements. Learning and acquiring new skills, help in the development of one's personality and also enrichment of the resume.

In the third technical session,  Mr. Makarand Rege, CEO, Siddhartha Learning Institute, was the resource person. Mr. Rege in his action packed speech demonstrated various types of human behavior. He highlighted three types of personalities - Viz. Passive, Aggressive and Assertive. He also focused on verbal communication, non verbal communication, and face to face communication. Mr. Rege urged students to develop self confidence, questioning ability, listening sills, positive body language and to be  empathetic towards others which form important characteristics  of assertive personality.

The last session was jointly conducted by Dr. Gujrathi and Mr. Rege. Four students were randomly selected from the audience and a live interview session was conducted to give them a  first hand experience of appearing for an interview. Both the resource persons acted as interviewer and covered the range of questions from subject specific to General knowledge. The role play was an eye opener for the students.

In Valedictory, student representatives expressed their indebtedness to the Chief Guest, Resource Persons, and Principal for conducting  such a range of sessions with minute details,  which proved to be an eye opener, as far as their career is considered. The workshop will definitely help them to set their foot in the career of their choice.

The workshop ended with a formal vote of thanks followed by National Anthem.
